Welcome back Peter

Fresh after a two week break holidaying in Tasmania, it was time to get back to business.  A nice toasty, warm morning it was too.

Greeted by Bernie and Judy at the Desk, taking our hard earned, a good crowd of Members was present.

Genta, our Club's Rotary International Director was the man in the Chair, and began proceedings after the dull roar of the crowd was silenced by Sergeant Deb's bell.  Oh what control she exudes.

Following Rotary Grace and the Toast to Australia, PDG Alan OAM, sent us in the direction of Haiti, in Rotary District 7020, to the Rotary Club of Port of Prince.  If you'd like to read more about this interesting Club, or you'd just like to check up on Alan's memory of statistics, follow this link.

I must mention a couple of important guests present. Judy brought along her mother, Merle, who is a picture of health. Nice to see you Merle and thanks for keeping Judy under control.  Our retired Rotarian, Alf, looks very much like he may be coming out of retirement and re-joining our gang of merry men and ladies.  We all hope this does eventuate, Alf, as you're Rotary experience and enthusiasm from the past is still invaluable. Welcome back, Alf !

Rachael (note the spelling), one of our two latest members joined us again.  Welcome Rachael. I promise you will receive your name badge next week and you will recognise the spelling.

Our semi-retired member, Mark W, has just returned from another holiday.  Welcome back, Mark, and thanks for being so organised and presenting us with a pictorial diary of your trip to the Philippines.

The 3 Minutes on Me Segment belonged to Judy. Thankfully having her mother Merle present, meant she wasn't able to waver from the truth.

A reminder that our Board Meeting is on Thursday evening (today, 15 Feb).  We meet at 5pm in the Boardroom of McGrath Real Estate (opposite the entry to McDonalds).  All members are welcome to attend Board Meetings.  It is an excellent opportunity to see what goes on behind the scenes and how the Club runs.

A reminder that our Breakfast meeting next week is at Pelican Waters Golf Club (which means I'll have to set my alarm for 15 minutes earlier).

Speaking of the Golf Club, our annual St Patrick's Charity Golf Day is fast approaching. I hope you're all dusting off and polishing your clubs in readiness. Don't forget to spread the word to encourage players and form a team. There are still some holes remaining for a Sponsorship opportunity, an excellent means of providing exposure to your business. Please contact Gordon for more details.

Keeping up with the international theme of our meeting, some members of our club will be travelling to Japan in April, and amongst touring and travelling will visit our sister Club, the Rotary Club of Komaki.

Just so we could have a little preview of what's in store, our resident PR man, Les provided us with a PowerPoint Presentation, as the morning's Guest Speaker, of his and wife Joy's trip to the area last year.  I'm sure everyone would agree that Japan at the time of the Cherry Blossom, is a very beautiful country.  The presentation served as a guide to provide those members attending, examples of what is available to do whilst in Japan.  Thanks for the Guided Tour, Les.

A couple of date claimers that you may like to avail yourself to attend and further cement some friendships within our Club and uphold the value of Service in our Community are

About Judy

The 3 Minutes on Me Segment belonged to Judy.  Thankfully having her mother Merle present, meant she wasn't able to waver from the truth.

We are all amazed by Judy's cheerful attitude and her level of resilience.  Judy, as we know, has had more than her fair share of tragedy in her life, but her ability to be thankful for the good memories and times together, rather than dwelling on the sad ones, only goes to show the inspiration she is to us all.  Well done Judy, you're amazing and we all love you for it.

As an example of this, Judy without doubt would have to be one of the most dedicated Members in our Club.  A Past President and now firmly entrenched as our Youth Director, she has now organised another Caravan and Camping Spectacular.  Once again it is at Esk Caravan Park on the weekend of the 23,24,25th of March.  Included in the weekend agenda is a Tribute Show at the local Civic Centre to The Eagles and Johnny Cash.  If you'd like the opportunity to come along, please feel free to contact Judy for information or visit the event page.

A phantom report

Gordon said there would be a report next week, but then presented one anyway!

Hanami & Japan

Sach Orpanage

Our semi-retired member, Mark W, has just returned from another holiday/diving trip in The Philippines where he took advantage of the opportunity to explore possibilities at the Sach Orphanage in Bohol.  Welcome back, Mark, and thanks for being so organised and presenting us with a pictorial diary of your trip to the Philippines.
