Our meeting on 20 November began with a minute's silence to honour our late member, Lyn Roberts.

Ian Belcher chaired proceedings and welcomed guest speaker Tony, Graeme Bowden & Ian Holden.  Ian is a semi retired bookkeeper with computer/internet skills.  He and his wife recently settled in Pelican Waters.  Ian currently works two days a week on-line for a Veterinary Clinic in Albury/Wodonga where he has been employed for 10 years.
We were then treated to a very quick but outstanding presentation by Ana featuring her life, family, vocation and interests.

President Bernie together with Chris & Merv attended the District AGM last Sunday which was followed by a very informative seminar on The Rotary Foundation.  Bernie went on to remind us about Lyn's service later in the morning, our AGM, the BBQ next week, the request by Star Pharmacy at Golden Beach to man a BBQ in December, and the Christmas Party.

Our Melbourne Cup Trifecta winner joined us, leaving The Bookshop at Caloundra to fend for itself.  Fellow Rotarian Graeme Bowden was presented with his prize cheque which he said has been spent already.

Judy introduced Tony Moorhead as our Guest Speaker representing the Currimundi Catchment Care Group of which he is President.  The group began as Friends of Currimundi Lake North West which formed in 2001 after Councillor Elaine Darling called a meeting for local residents interested in improving the environment of suburbs north of Currimundi Lake and those west of the Nicklin Way. The group was concerned about bank erosion, siltation and water quality of Currimundi Lake and its connecting system of creeks and canals, and preserving the natural features of fauna and flora.  While working with Sunshine Coast Regional Council and receiving some financial support, the group aims to operate independently both financially and politically.
Tony's presentation was most informative.  A special note was made of the need for more volunteers.

He managed to include a plug for Haemochromatosis Australia which Inherited Iron Overload Disorder, before questions and an eloquent 'thank you' by Chair Ian.

Darryl reminded us of the vocational visit to The Men's Shed on 11 December (not at Oaks Resort), before Sergeant Merv concluded proceedings.

During the meeting, Roger announced that after a process lasting several years, the proposal for the WindanSea clubhouse on the foreshore at the end of Buderim St Currimundi will be advertised for public comment this week.  WindanSea are the local shortboard surfing club, and have a large number of young surfers.  They have been established since 1970 and run the Ma and Pa competition, the second oldest surf comp in Australia.  The proposal for a clubhouse has been spearheaded by a committee chaired by ex Caloundra Dep Mayor Don Smith.  The clubhouse will be run by a community board and will be used by various surfing clubs, community groups and well as the Special and Primary schools (which it is next door to).  It is a big “ask" to be given a bit of foreshore land, but WindanSea have “earned their stripes” and the clubhouse is a minimal structure which won’t be seen from the beach.  It has been put under the microscope by Council, State and the Kabi Kabi and they are satisfied. What is needed now is positive comments from the community.  Please go to the WindanSea website for “talking points” and a link to Council’s PD Online, where comments can be submitted electronically.
