PE Jim welcomed us to the meeting at Grounded Emporium.
Apologies included James, and Irish.
A special welcome to Heather who is here because it’s school holidays.

Thanks for the photos Dave
Thanks Dave for highlighting our greatest skill as a Breakfast Club

Yes, of course, it's eating breakfast.  Special thanks to Grounded Emporium

John delivered the International Toast to the Rotary Club of Bucharest in Romania, charted in April 1929.

The Presidents Report was delivered by Deborah
  • Report on Merv - doing well but he has requested leave of absence until the end of the year
  • Trevor has also applied for leave for family reasons
  • RUSCCF Dinner.
  • Change over will be on 25th June at Oaks.
  • Jim reported on our Zoom Board Meeting
  • We had a request from Bunnings to do barbecues over Easter. After discussion we decided we lacked time to organise and volunteers over Easter.
There's no truth to the rumour that Dave was throwing huntsman spiders on the floor in order to get some photo action

Deborah asked us for ideas about fundraising.
  • She outlined an idea for a recycled fashion parade. Categories such as fantasy, wedding gowns, a day at the races, and a day at the beach. You would need the op shop receipt.
  • Jim talked about the barbecue trailer and how we could progress a grant for a replacement.
  • Heather said that the beach was very “busy“ at the moment and there may be an opportunity to pick up or have deposited cans and bottles for recycling. We could do a sausage sizzle at the Twilight Markets.
  • We talked about Grants for a function such as a Movie Night.
  • Possibility of a wine drive.
  • John suggested a debate.
Deborah and Jim are to meet with Andrew Wallace

The RSL reported that the French ambassador would not be attending Anzac Day in Caloundra

Pam reported on the RUSCCF Combined Dinner. We are due for a platinum award at the ceremony as we have contributed over $20,000 to the project. She needs volunteers to sell tickets

Pam has seen Merv - he’s doing really well. He has to watch his stress levels. He will need radiation after his wound heels. James will continue to be the conduit for communications. We have sent them a card

Kath has been in hospital over the weekend after at fall. She needs to take it easy for a while.

Gordon is up for another operation on Monday.

Pam report it on RYDA – Neville has stepped aside. CalPac have taken a leading role and Maleny is also involved. There are $52,000 in funds for the project up until 2026. It costs $15,000 per year to run

Jim asked John if he would give us another impromptu talk on his view of world events

John is back to PNG tomorrow for six weeks, but he has an important task today – his Australian citizenship test – good luck John you’ll be a Stralian before you know it.

Things are always interesting in PNG. The vaccination rate is about 6%, due to some negative connotations about vaccines. It’s election season in PNG so things are a bit “nutty“. News coverage of PNG is getting worse and worse, especially in the last decade – The ABC is an example

They are working on a gas project. This equates to more revenue, but also more inflation

Australia needs to be better prepared around fuel – We only have “a few weeks“ supply. Renewables are worth some serious thought.

Our wages are very high – we could consider robotics and using green hydrogen to make steel

John doesn’t think Russia will be leaving the Ukraine any time soon – he thinks they will concentrate on the south and east

Afghanistan lacks external assistance

Yemen is in a sad situation – there is a truce, but also a cholera outbreak

He also discussed Ethiopia

Richard thank John for his world thoughts

There was no Sergeant's session, however Pam recounted her car locking problems

Jim thank thanked Grace from Grounded Emporium.

Judging from the pictures we enjoyed our food

Next week we are back at Oaks

Mark is away for three weeks, and Irish is seeing her mum for the first time in five years
