Chair and MC was Renae, our Community Director

The International Toast was proposed by Jim to a Rotary Club with a difficult to pronounce name somewhere in New Zealand which Darryl was able to decipher for me .. Whangarei City Rotary Club

They like to do it a bit differently there - affordable/time factor/fewer meeting/no meals/ projects in the community

Thanks for the photos Dave

Under construction
President Jim delivered his report
  • It’s a lovely day out there – just can’t trust the BOM– (what? Did they predict scattered cyclones)
  • And now there’s a joke creeping into the Presidents Report – Paddy goes to the doctor with two burnt ears  – The phone rang while he was ironing - and why two ears? - Well they called back, didn’t they.
  • Warryn off to Canberra, so Jim has taken over the bottle run – wine bottles too - $37.20.
  • We have an invite to the Rotary Club of Caloundra Pacific meeting on the 29th – $33 per head,
  • Via Deborah – FM104.9 is putting out one month of free advertising – email Deborah with any “story“ about why you joined Rotary. They will ring and record it.
  • RYDA meeting at 9 o’clock with the Chamber of Commerce
Community Director Renae took the floor to direct discussion around a 12 month plan.

She’s been a member for one and a half years, and has seen a lot of talking but not much doing. We need ideas, a plan, and action.
  • Fundraising
  • A local project.
  • We have a good international project in Bohol.
“not a dictatorship“ - we start with blank paper and are looking for ideas for the Board to sift through

Renae
Noted that we have started discussions around a Golf Day, which would be a good fund raiser.
Gateway Care involvement is a “no brainer” Local Project given the current need
How about a Community Breakfast once a month.
With James and the Salvation Army we can help out with the Carols at Kings

Jim
Bunnings barbecues make some money, but all the dates are public holidays.

Richard
Nude calendar?

James
Invite Quentin from Gateway to become a member.
Bookfest – could investigate with the Salvation Army, they have a warehouse in Daniel Street and a fork lift.

Elaine
RC Wagga Wagga – two day Bookfest grosses $75,000 – to hire a large shed cost $20,000

Jim
Movie night

Roger
Car boot sale – we had tried one in the past at the Salvation Army car park. A more central location was considered to be more effective – needs to be ongoing and build momentum.

Tracey
Pets Calendar

Bernie
The Community Bank could be a partner.

Elaine
The Car Boot sale at Wagga was huge – the Rotary Club just did the catering.

Mark
Where are we with moving to gateway?

Deborah
Mooloolaba Music trivia with FM104.9 raises $50,000

Richard
For “actual” input this time
Fishing Classic.
Rotary Surfing.
Do something with divers - the chest with $500 in it is “huge“ in Sydney
Something with pushbikes

Wagga does a bike ride - 300 grew to 3000 riders

Bob
Art Show.

Darryl
Sunshine Coast’s most eligible bachelor.
They did one in 1983 and the 12 finalists ended up on a calendar.

Renae thanked us all - “Food For Thought”.

Directors
Mark – Bohol bio-gas “it’s on its way” hopefully there by mid March

Keith will be here next week. It’s his 63rd Birthday.

Roger is away next week so no Reel

Bob - Youth
Issy and NYSF

Richard
Away next week with daughter Erin on a cruise, so Warryn is in charge – watch out.

Maybe with the nude fishing calendar, they could hold their fish in front of their tackle.

On that note, Renae closed the meeting.

My aunt's star sign was cancer, pretty ironic how she died. She was eaten by a giant crab
