Sergeant Ian introduced Mark, our Chair today and Mark welcomed us to “The best Rotary Club”

Thanks for the photos Irish
Mark acknowledged Deborah’s guest Julianna “Jelly“ from Vegas, and possible new member Bob.

Hi Genta

Mark introduced President James, who had“102 sleeps to go“
  • Trevor is travelling and gives his apologies
  • John Moore is working in Canberra
  • Richard has eye surgery this Thursday
  • Paul is helping out the Men’s Shed with their computer
  • Thanks to all who were involved with the conference - tasks involved packing bags, setting up, & packing away. The compliments handed out to the host Clubs unfortunately underplayed RC Caloundra Pacific’s role. Naturally we are very sorry about that. James said it was his best ever Conference, and highlights included Ashton, Angie, Dr Rizsa, psychologist Krishneel, and the RIPPR (Rotary International President’s Personal Representative) PDG Jayendra and Marlene. The flag raising by the Interact Club was inspiring. There was a “buy one get one free” offer for Paul Harris Fellowships with the offer of US$500 taken up for 25 Fellowships. Jitendra is the membership man. Mark Ward mentioned in dispatches having being the Treasurer for the conference. Jenny Smith, the District Conference Chair, gave her “personal thanks” to the host clubs.
  • The 2023 conference will be from the 24th to 26 March.
  • There is an offer for us to assist with the car parking at Australia Zoo over Easter

The international Toast was to RC Jerusalem – peace talks with Russia and the Ukraine will be held there. They meet at the YMCA at King David Street. They are a multicultural and multi faith Club charted in 1924, and part of District 2490

James’ Thought for the Day from Thomas Crum
“In a conflict, being willing to change, moves you from a point of view to a viewing point - a higher, more expansive place where you can see both sides”

James had to deliver some bad news about our member Merv. His lung cancer appeared to have been resolved, but during a follow up check, he has been diagnosed with a lesion on his brain.  There is, however, reason to be hopeful as his doctors feel that as it is close to the surface, it is operable.

Our thoughts are with Merv & Anne.

James has agreed to be the conduit for communications from the Club at this difficult time.

Rotary is a family, and Merv has been a long-standing and esteemed member.

Mark was able to get “3–4 Minutes on Rotary”, and his presentation centred on the great times had at the District Conference.

There was a wide range of events and activities ranging from the 1920s themed Gala Dinner, to the Rotary International President’s report.

In his introductory speech, Mark Jamieson, our Sunshine Coast Council Mayor, revealed that he is an honorary Rotarian at two local Clubs.

And watch out for the “gorilla in the room”

The Mambo school in Kenya is supported by a Brisbane Club, and Mark noted similarities to the Bohol project in the Philippines, which we support. Incidentally, the costs for the bakery at Bohol have increased, and we have also been involved in a $4000 disaster relief project funded from District.

Five things about membership

Next years conference in Brisbane is poised to be a spectacular, and is to be held at the Brisbane City Hall. Recent conservation works there will help make it a memorable event. It will included inspirational speakers such as Peter Cosgrove, Brendan Nielsen and Noel Pearson.

That's Mark in the background looking for more dirt for the Sergeant behind the TV screen

Roger got a roasting for his electric silver car, not quite electric in the way that you would hope.

Roger has two things in his toolkit - duct tape and RP7 –
if it moves, and it’s not supposed to, then you can fix it with duct tape.
If it doesn’t move, and it’s supposed to, well then of course, spray with RP7
