Directors reports
  • Pam – SCCF dinner - The university seems to have dropped some of its enthusiasm, in particular helping out with the venue cost for the dinner. They are proposing to include the award presentation with the conference. There could be individual talks for clubs.
  • Darryl – make up at the Rotary club Caloundra Pacific where they discussed their Philippines project. Now working with 9 to 10 schools in the north of the Philippines with the project costing $20,000. It cost Darryl $33 for the meeting $10 for a beer and another 10 for a fine. They congratulated us on our project in Boho. Darryl would visit there with his granddaughter in June.
Jim – spoke to Ann – Merv is out of hospital.

Alan Still Aug 12, 2018

Born  at Parkes, NSW in 1929 Alan's family moved quite often so he went to 12 different schools.

He joined the Colonial Sugar Co (CSR) in 1947 in Sydney.  He was transferred to Nausori, Fiji in 1949  and then to Labasa on Vanua Levu in 1951.

Win was the Mill Manager secretary and they married in 1953, transferring to a place called Wai ni Koro as Manager of a large Sugar cane plantation.

A number of other promotions followed but in 1961 they decided not to send their four children by themselves to Australia for education, and transferred with CSR to the Building Materials Division, and later to  Melbourne on the Sales Staff.

He had a short period as a Councillor of the City of Waverley, then moved to Darwin and back to Melbourne after Cyclone Tracey.

From Melbourne to Rockhampton, then to the Gold Coast and Burleigh Heads for 33 years.

Alan became a Rotarian in 1970 when he joined the Rotary Club of Darwin.

Subsequently he moved to the Rotary clubs of Rockhampton, Burleigh Heads (1 February 1983), and Caloundra from 7 July 2015.  He remains an Honorary member of the Rotary Club of Burleigh Heads.  He was President of the Rotary Club of Burleigh Heads on two occasions, 1985-86 and 1997-98.

Alan became Governor of Rotary District 9640 for the 1989-90 Rotary year.

History was made on 9 May 1990 when DG Alan Still chartered the Rotary Club of Ashmore as the first club in District 9640 to admit women members.  It was chartered with 28 members and today maintains a membership of around 46.  He was elected to Rotary's Council on Legislation for the 1992 sessions.

A little set back in 2000 when he was inflicted with Macular Disease.  Not that it stopped him 'though!

Awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in the Queen's Birthday 2007 Honours List for service to the community through Rotary International as a provider of sponsorship for the education of children in Indonesia, providing education for children in Salvation Army homes.

He received a Royce Abbey Award on 31 October 2017 in recognition of his outstanding service to Rotary and the Rotary Club of Caloundra.  See the report here.

Win has been a wonderful support always.  Together, they played completion golf for 33 years and Win was a good golfer.

They moved to Dicky Beach in 2015.  Win is a member of Inner Wheel and a CACA (Caloundra Arts Centre Association Inc.) group called 'Stichers',

As Alan says:
Life is great.

I had a job selling security alarms door to door and I was really good at it.
If no one was home I would just leave a brochure on the kitchen table.
