Chair Mark welcomed guest speaker Phillip Smith  from Noosa Daybreak Rotary, and Matt from the Salvation Army in Noosa.
 
Honourable mentions also went out to Keith, Elaine, Ana and Dave.
 
The International Toast was proposed to Yemen (A-Rotary-Paradox) where poverty and lack of clean water is being made worse by the US and UK blockade.

I have held most Rotary Board positions and for 7 years was the District Chair for the project ‘ROMAC’.
My wife and I moved to the Sunshine Coast 18 months ago and I am now a member of Noosa Daybreak Rotary.”
 

Noosa Daybreak Rotary have been funding the Salvation Army’s work to aid the homeless.
Phillip is much aware of the DV and homelessness issues in Sydney.
 
It is an issue on the Coast too with 1200 homeless people in Sunshine Coast/Noosa areas
 
Matt’s project with the Salvation Army is to provide short term assistance.
 
Noosa daybreak is funded by a Book Fest in May each year where they raise approximately $35,000 nett
They have 150 tables of books and associated fundraisers

Do they have enough to build a house? No
Can they support the survey Salvation Army’s Blessing Fund – Yes.

The charity costs a minimal 8% for administration, compared to up to 40% with some Charities – they are tax-deductible.
 
There are increasing numbers of women over 65 homeless
 
Matt – $50,000 spent so far - 98 people from last October.
Issues with prices/domestic violence/homelessness.
17 years in Salvation Army.
Rent – impacting more and more
$711 is the medium price per week?
There are 200 homeless people camping on the Noosa North Shore.
 
Example - George, an elderly man was homeless. He was 82 years old in a share house. He had been beaten up.
They found him accommodation “that night“. He is now in a nursing home.
 
Example 2 - Two adults and two children living in a van - their rental had been sold.
They were able to have Christmas in a home.
