Correspondence
Email from Paulette saying that unfortunately she would not be able to attend meetings during the day due to work commitments.
It was suggested by Chris that the solution may be to zoom the meetings as well as meeting face to face, all agreed that it was a great idea and that it may actually increase attendance at the meetings as some members, particularly Cooroy members had quite a distance to travel.

Combined Meeting
Bookings – At the moment only 6 Rotarians have registered. After doing a count of potential attendees from Caloundra Pacific, Mooloolaba, Alex Headland and the University we came up with approximately 64 attendees so all clubs are asked to canvas their members and try and raise the number to about 100.
Ian to chase up clubs that booked last year.
Catering – Choice of 2 main meals chicken or pork and a self service grazing dessert bar.
Agreed that we continue as last year, Melissa organising 3 tables at a time  starting at the front, to be served.
Bar – Maleny has all in hand including supplying the glasses, confirmed that cash and card will be accepted.
Raffle Tickets – Caloundra also has the raffle in hand, Pam will let Wendy know soon what the prizes are.
MC – Ian Barnett - DG to be asked to present scholarships (non speaking ‘assignment’)
Scholarship Recipients – All 3 have accepted and confirmed their attendance at the meeting.
Juliette Sauvage (Creative Writing & Publishing)
Grace Smith (Animal Ecology)
Ashley Williams (Biomedical Science)
Suggested that next year the recipients be mixed in with Rotarians instead of sitting at the same table as they do now.
Security – Not required this year, so quite a saving.
Donations already made – Glasshouse Country $1,000, Mooloolaba $2,500, Alex Headland $1,000.
Pledged – Buderim $1,000, Caloundra Pacific $1,500.

A lot of discussion on trying to ‘refresh’ the event for next year to get more Rotarians to attend, acknowledged that there is a lot of competition for attendance at events. Also suggested that the guest speaker really be promoted and that the Invitation needs an long overdue ‘rehash’. Suggestion that perhaps music could be introduced, perhaps a young group, which could also be good exposure for their group. Does it need to be a Wednesday night? Need to make sure that we don’t become complacent. All food for thought before the next combined meeting.

Ian flagged that he will not be standing for re-election next year, Graham’s name mentioned.
Wendy also said that she too would not be seeking re-election.

Next Meeting which will include the AGM:
Friday 21st July at 3.00pm
Meeting will be zoomed as well as meeting face to face.
Invitations to attend zoom meeting will be sent out prior to the date.

Chairman's Report
Chairman Ian Barnett delivered his annual report
RUSCCF Annual Report 2022
  • We were unable to hold our annual combined meeting dinner due to the need to cancel the scheduled meeting because of severe weather conditions and local flooding. The guest speaker, two of the scholarship recipients were among those who were unable to attend.
  • The Combined meeting has been rescheduled for the 24th August 2022 and the scholarships will be formally presented. The recipients have already received their payments.
  • We were again able to award three Rotary Postgraduate Scholarships of $4,500 each. A once off scholarship of $5,500 funded by the proceeds of the R100 Dinner and donated by the Alexandra Headland, Buderim, Caloundra, Caloundra Pacific, Maroochydore and Mooloolaba Rotary Clubs, was also awarded.
  • The combined Rotary Clubs of the Sunshine Coast once again demonstrated their ongoing support for the RUSCCF Scholarships by giving $11,250 to the fund. As there will be some extra donations due to moneys raised at the combined meeting and maybe additional club donations, we are not closing donations for the 2021-22 year until after the event.
  • Since RUSCCF’s inception in the Rotary 1996-97 Year, Rotary Clubs have donated $229,598.53
    • Scholarships have assisted 65 postgraduate students in the pursuit of their studies.
    • A strong graduate school increases the reputation of UniSC and in turn attracts undergraduates to UniSC
    • UniSC’s growth has a significant impact on the Sunshine Coast community by attracting staff and students to our community it has strengthened our economy and also provided facilities for sport and recreation.
    • While it is impossible to directly measure the impact of our scholarship scheme on UniSC’s growth, we can be assured that it has made a positive contribution to UniSC and the whole community has benefited.
  • Special thanks to those who have supported RUSCCF
    • To UniSC for including a page on the “Rotary USC Community Scholarship” in the USC website
    • To USC Development office, particularly Greg and Russel for your support of this committee.
    • To the Rotary members who have served on the RUSCCF
    • The Rotary Clubs who have supported RUSCCF
