LOCAL DOMESTIC AND FAMILY VIOLENCE SEMINAR

You are receiving this email as you are part of the Sunshine Coast and immediate surrounding areas. You are also a RC in the Kenny Cluster.

 

R4MH (Rotary 4 Mental Health) is a committee formed by the RC’s of Cooroy, Eumundi, Noosa, Noosa Daybreak and Noosa Heads (the Fab 5). Whilst initially formed to investigate and better understand Mental Health issues including PTSD it was quickly recognised that it was also interlinked with Domestic Violence (DV). A DV project was part of my Presidents year at RC Caloundra Pacific in conjunction with RC Mooloolaba. Unfortunately, COVID did a number on that project at the time.

Since that time, you will agree, the problem has only got worse. RI President Gordan McInally also has a focus on this problem during this Rotary year. In fact Zone 8 and our own District 9620 have adopted the lead by the RC of Ballina NSW with regards the wearing of Purple Shirts” on Fridays. I hope your Clubs are doing what they can to promote the DV Awareness cause.

 

The Fab 5 has arranged for a speaker to advise the progress Police are making and their desire to do more. The presentation will be around stories rather than statistics.

The Members of the R4MH Committee which includes some well educated Rotarians in the medical community are of the opinion that to effect real change it must start at primary schools. The Committee is looking to partner with NFP’s and Government Departments to investigate and pursue a program for schools. The Committee does have a NFP in mind however discussions have not yet been completed. So I can’t provide details on that just yet.

The first step is this Seminar, thereafter it is hoped that all RC’s on the Sunshine Coast (as a start) will collaborate and work together to try to effect change in our society.

 

Yes, for a few of you it is a longer drive than you might like on a Thursday evening but I think this is worth it. Remember Polio started from one man and look where that went!!!
